We will discuss the necessity of when you need to hire a musicologist, or when an artist wants you to use their own re-record, or when there is sample that just can't be cleared. This panel will share the tricks of the trade and show you step-by-step how to solve a nightmare clearance.

For over two decades, Linda has been a senior clearance and licensing executive working in Film, TV, Stage Plays, Internet, Videogames and Advertising. Linda serves as President and founder of LJO Music Consulting, servicing clients; Showtime, AMC, Amazon, The Lincoln Center, Juilliard School, BroadwayHD, among many other small and large entertainment companies. Prior to founding her own company, Linda served as Vice President of Clearance for Paramount Vantage film studio, working on many award wining films including; There Will Be Blood, No Country for Old Men, and Into the Wild. Before that, Linda served as Vice President of Content Licensing for the largest videogame publisher in Japan, Konami Digital Entertainment. In her earlier years, Linda spent over 12 years as the Director of Licensing for the Walt Disney Motion Picture Group, working on such iconic music films as High Fidelity, What’s Love Got To Do With It, and Sister Act. Linda’s company is currently working on the critically acclaimed music show, Live From Daryl’s House, the Showtime limited series, Escape at Dannemora and has just completed work on the new AMC series, Lodge 49, and the Tony award winning Broadway stage show, The Band’s Visit.
Dr. Denise Carver is a musicologist with 30 years of experience in the music business. CarverMusik, formed in 2013, specializes in musicological analysis, infringement risk assessment, worldwide copyright and public domain research, and genre and historical music consulting.
CarverMusik clients include film/TV companies (Netflix, Amazon, Lionsgate, Hulu, MGM, Fox, Disney, Warner Bros, MTV), music supervisors, advertising firms, composers, songwriters, publishers, attorneys and music libraries. Projects include The Rap Game, Lady Bird, Stranger Things, First They Killed My Father, Beasts of No Nation, Orange Is The New Black, Man In The High Castle, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Revenge Body With Khloe Kardashian, Patriot, Little Miss Atlanta, MTV Ridiculousness and The Conan O'Brien Show.
As former V.P. of Music at Paramount Pictures, she worked on numerous film and soundtrack projects, including the Transformers, Star Trek and Mission:Impossible film franchises, music biofilms about Katy Perry, Justin Bieber, Jay-Z and Tupac Shakur, and Oscar-winning films Titanic, Forrest Gump, The Hours, Braveheart, Ghost, Babel, Saving Private Ryan and Rango.
She holds a Ph.D. in music composition, a J.D. from Loyola Law School and an International Law Certificate from Salzburg University, Austria. She is a former lecturer in music theory and composition at UC California, and has been a panelist at the Billboard- Hollywood Reporter Film & TV Music Conference, the Hollywood Sync Summit, the International Congress on Women in Music and the UC Symposium on Arts and Humanities Ph.D.’s. She is a member of NARAS, BMI, the California Bar Association and the American Musicological Society.

Michelle Bayer founded Shelly Bay Music in 2002 to help generate income streams for songwriters, music producers and independent labels as well collect publisher earnings in the ever-changing music business. With an emphasis on Music Placements and Royalty Administration Shelly Bay has a decade of success under its belt. Prior to opening the doors of Shelly Bay Music, Michelle was the head of Tommy Boy Publishing and Tracking Manager at EMI Music Publishing among other positions in her long career in music. Shelly Bay Music provides music consulting, music placement, music publishing administration and royalty administration. Michelle is also an adjunct professor at Baruch College/CUNY teaching undergrads about today's music business.

CINDY BADELL-SLAUGHTER currently serves as President of Heavy Hitters Music Group and Vice President of Sales for Made In Memphis Entertainment. Heavy Hitters Music has been a leading provider of Independent Artist music to the Film, TV and Advertising Industries for over 25 years. It has recently joined forces with Made In Memphis Entertainment founded by Hall of Fame songwriter, David Porter. Prior to taking the reins at Heavy Hitters Music, Cindy was the West Coast Director of Music Operations for CBS-Paramount. For 10 years she helped manage the day to day music clearance, licensing and general music operations for the Network, Studio and its many award-winning shows. She also worked as Director of Music Clearance at Evan M. Greenspan (EMG, Inc.), Warner Bros Television, and Lorimar Productions. Over the last 30 years, Cindy has handled music administration and/or music clearance for Feature Films, Commercials, Soundtracks, Movies and Mini-Series and countless highly rated Dramatic and Reality series, plus On-air Promotion for three networks, FOX, CBS, and UPN. It’s been a joy, privilege and a blessing to work within the world of Film and TV Music on both sides in Production, Music Supervision, Music Clearance and Publishing with the best folks in the business.
